Commitment: A Challenge for Formal Methods

چکیده
As an exploratory case study for the use of formal methods in cryptography, this paper considers the commitment primitive. Its reconstruction from an abstract informal characterisation explains most aspects of the usual commitment specifications, and demonstrates succinctly the inadequacy of the traditional formal methods “toolbox” in the context of modern cryptography. Additions to this toolbox are explored.
